Ola Alvey, 13, and her family have been left devastated after their puppy Chip was mauled to death by a bullmastiff. Dad Shaun worries that next time a child may be the victim.
Ola Alvey, 13, was with her dad, Shaun, brother Sam and step-mum Gill in Hemswell, Gainsborough when Chip was grabbed by a bullmastiff and killed.
Ola was holding Chip on the lead at the time of the ferocious attack which resulted in dad Shaun, 53, also being bitten on the leg, reports LincolnshireLive.
A teenage girl has been left “traumatised” after her beloved eight-month-old pomchi puppy was mauled to death before her eyes while she took him for a walk with her family.
Shaun said: “It completely destroyed our puppy. My daughter was holding the lead at the time.
“I fought the dog and was bitten on the leg, but our puppy was already dead. It mauled the puppy.”
In the melee quick-thinking Sam, who was celebrating his 16th birthday, picked up their other dog Blade and ran with him to the car.
According to Shaun he was threatened by the owner and the bullmastiff was taken away from the scene so its whereabouts are unknown.
The family, from Barnsley, called the police in the wake of the incident as they were unsure what to do following the mauling.
“It’s been so upsetting for Ola and Sam. They actually had to call an ambulance for my wife, because she was in hysterics,” Shaun added. “She was in total shock.
“My daughter had to be removed from school due to trauma. My wife’s had an ECG because they think it might have done something to her heart.”
After Chip was killed Shaun gathered up the small puppy’s body and wrapped him in a blanket.
“I don’t go to the doctor usually, but I’ve been put on anti-depressants and sleeping tablets because of the stress. This is eating me up.”
Mr Alvey said he was worried that the dog will attack again if it isn’t put down.
“We had been to the meat market man in Hemswell, so I was carrying 80lb worth of beef, pork and gammon. The dog wasn’t interested in that. He only wanted the dog,” he said.
“That tells me it’s trained to fight.
“This dog will kill again and next time it could be a child.”
