No one was home during the incident and no firefighters were injured.
According to Scott Hettinger with the Carolina Beach Police Department, “At 4:57 P.M. the Carolina Beach Fire Department was dispatched to 212 Greenville Ave. in reference to a structure fire. Carolina Beach Firefighters arrived on scene and observed flames and heavy smoke coming from the front and side of the structure. Firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire as other firefighters entered the residence to check for any occupants. While searching, firefighters discovered a dog in distress hiding in one of the bedrooms. The dog was saved from the heavy smoke and fire and firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining flames. The monetary damage to the structure is in the process of being assessed. The Carolina Beach Fire Investigator and Carolina Beach Police Department completed an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. It was determined by investigators the fire was unintentional. The fire was started from
improperly discarded flammable construction materials. The multiple calls to the 911 Center from neighbors in the area and the quick response from emergency personnel significantly helped to minimize the damage to the residence, surrounding properties, and saving the family pet from any injuries. Additionally, the Kure Beach Fire Department, New Hanover County Fire Department, New Hanover Regional EMS, and the Kure Beach Police Department responded to assist.”
