What he probably thought was just another day at work turned into a wonderful surprise for Ttirado.

After more than eight years of service as an explosives detection dog at Indianapolis International Airport, it was time for Ttirado to retire.

Little did he know what was waiting for him as his last assignment. The staff at the airport prepared a very special present for him – or should we say hundreds of presents.

As he sniffed out a suitcase where he noticed something was ‘fishy’, a lifetime supply of tennis balls came out of nowhere – and they were all his!

Time for a well-earned rest for this TSA veteran. He has been keeping the transportation systems safe side by side with his handler, Keith Gray. And the two will stay united for life as Keith has adopted his loyal companion to enjoy the rest of his days in a loving home.

By the way, Ttirado was named after 30-year-old EMT and Army veteran Hector Luis Tirado of FDNY Engine 23, who lost his life in the 9/11 attacks. This is signified by the double first letter of Ttirado’s name. Ttirado the explosives detection dog was one of the longest-serving TSA canines.

What an awesome way this was to honor our heroes for keeping us safe!
And judging by the recent updates, Ttirado is already enjoying his retirement and watching over a new trainee.
UPDATE: Keith Gray, TTirado’s handler, wanted to share his thanks for the overwhelming support over the last couple days and share some other big news. Check out their video (w/ special guest 🐶)! pic.twitter.com/KqJMQGIl8r
